Patch 3.2 has arrived! I updated XIVDB about 2.5 hours after maintenance finished, it would have been sooner but I was snoozing away as the patch was Midnight GMT, bad time for me living in the UK!
You can always get to the new items for a patch by searching for the id, eg:
I wanted to get an update out every week, the Shopping Cart has been going extremely well. I didn't get it out for this week, and there are just a few final things to complete on it (Gil costs and Saving).
It has been a huge task getting this working, I remember some of the Feedback I got in the v1 XIVDB version and I wanted to get that solved for this version, it's been a huge task doing so and I spent about 18 hours working out the logic for it on Saturday, which has delayed me completing it.
The original shopping cart took 4 weeks (back then I was employed to work 2 week sprints and it took 2 sprints), so this time doing it all again 1 week in the evenings was a challenge. I am super pleased with how it has come along and I hope it's helpful to at least 1 person!
Here are some previews: (Click the images to open in a new tab)
The first stage of the tool is to select what items you want to make, this tool was usually used for Meals or a "set" of gear, so you would search for whatever you want to make and "drag" it onto the cart. Then hit checkout!
The first view of checkout would be all the materials required to craft what you want to make. This is split by tier, so further down the tiers is additional materials if you want to "fully" craft everything rather than just purchase the first tier materials. Each tier will list what those materials create.
In the example screenshot, you can see in tier 3 it says to get 1 Water Shard and 1 Muddy Water and those will be used to craft a Distilled Water, which is used in Tier 2, in Tier 2 all those materials are used to make more items used in Tier 1. This makes it very easy to navigate what you need to make to move up the crafting tree!
Clicking onto one of the items to the right will allow you to see specifics about just that item that you would like. Listing the materials required (like before) and how many of those materials are used out of the total amount you require. In the example above, the Apkallu Omelette requires 1 out of 3 of the Fire Clusters the shopping cart says to get.
In this view you can click a material to view even more specifics loaded under, this will show you how to get the item, (Crafting, Shop, Gathering, Enemy, Instance etc).
I've tried to keep the flow and look very similar to v1, with some tweaks to match v2 style, here is a picture of v1 to compare!
Improvements from v1
In v1, the materials requested did not take yield into consideration. If you wanted 5 of item X and 1 synth yield 5, it will still ask you to get 5 of the materials, eg:
- Requires: 1 Table Salt
- Crafted Yield = 6
As you can see from this, 1 Table Salt synth creates 6, so if you want 5 Apkallu Omelette, you don't need 5 times the materials to make Table Salt, you only need 1 set of materials for it, as you make 6, you'd only need more if you needed more than 6!
v1 never factored this, and would ask you to get 5x Table Salt Materials, meaning you make 30 Table Salts! Too many!
v1 only showed the top tier materials, to find what materials you needed to make tier 1 materials you had to go back on your own to figure it out and use the detailed views to do them all individually. Now all tiers are visually in-front of you in 1 big checkout and it is very easy to see what you need in total from the very base and what materials craft what and allow you to move up the crafting tree.
This is a big one, I have placed translatable variables for all parts of the Shopping Cart, this makes it 100% translatable!!! German and French will be done quite quickly, those guys are super legends. Still looking for active Japanese translators!
I will be doing an update Monday (don't like to do one just before I'm to go to bed XD), this will be mainly prep stuff and a bunch of fixes, The shopping cart will be disabled until I've finished of the last few things, then I will release it probably on Wednesday or Thursday. I am really excited to see what feedback I get back, I already have some ideas for it!!
I will do 1 week of polish on it after release before I begin work on the next feature: Wardrobe.
